Congratulations to our Education Support Professional of the month- Emily Hartman! Mrs. Hartman is an incredibly talented aide at our school who can do it all! She specializes in working with our kindergarteners, and literally HUNDREDS of our students and families have had the transition to kindergarten be made easier over many years because of Mrs. Hartman. The kids love her, and our teachers couldn't do their jobs without her. She is an absolute cornerstone of our Dolphin team. Thanks, Mrs. Hartman!

Congratulations to our Teacher of the Month- Ms. Handley! Anyone who knows Ms. Handley, knows she is incredibly dedicated to her students and the staff at Discovery. She is innovative, always seeking professional growth, and makes relationships with students and having fun a centerpiece to her job. We are incredibly lucky to have her on our 5th-grade team!

-RTI Para (works on Fridays only and helps in classrooms)
-Overcrowding Para (works in one classroom to assist a teacher)
-Instructional Para (runs reading groups for students and helps in classrooms as needed)

Today was a surprise attendance day at Discovery Elementary! The Pod Squad set up a face painting booth to celebrate with all the students that were at school today! Thank you to our Dolphin Community for supporting us in keeping our attendance strong!

Congratulations to Kelsie Arbon, our Education Support Professional of the Month! Miss Kelsie wears so many hats at Discovery- Office aide, recess monitor, former PTA president, carpool engineer- really just a jack of all trades. She was recently spotted volunteering her time after school one day, repainting our curbs. We are incredibly fortunate that Miss Kelsie is a Dolphin! Thank you!

Congratulations to Mrs. Hunt (formerly Miss Ipsen) for being our Teacher of the Month! Miss Maegyn, as her kids know her, is one of the most caring, dedicated, and talented teachers you could ever meet. We are lucky to have her at Discovery!

AUGUST OFFICE HOURS

We'd like to welcome our new functional skills teacher, Kortney Petersen, to the Dolphin Pod! 🐬 Kortney Petersen grew up in Roy, Utah. She graduated from Roy High School and decided to further her education at Dixie State University in St. George, Utah. While attending school, Kortney was diagnosed with a learning disability in math, for which she received modifications and accommodations to help her succeed. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Integrated Studies with an emphasis in communication and theater and was awarded Student of the Year for her department in 2019. In 2020, Kortney moved to Brigham City and became a special education paraeducator at an elementary school, where she absolutely loved her work. Inspired to pursue a career in special education, she wanted to help students like herself—those who needed extra support to succeed. In 2022, Kortney returned to school at Utah State University and earned her Bachelor’s degree in special education. She completed her student teaching in Roy, Utah, and decided she wanted to work closer to home, which is when she found Promontory. Kortney lives in Brigham City with her two children. They love spending time together as a family, particularly during Halloween. Kortney enjoys reading to her children every night and singing and acting on stage whenever she gets the chance. She loves the students at Promontory and enjoys connecting with them and helping them through special education, drawing on her own experiences. Her passion is to help students know they are not alone in their struggles with academics and that anyone can learn. “The very things that hold you down are going to lift you up!” —Timothy Q. Hey Dolphins! We hope you are enjoying your summer break. We wanted to announce that we have a new head custodian- Mr. Bobbie Lee! Here's more info about him:

"I was born in Canada, raised in Tooele, and moved to Perry a few years back. I have 6 kids and 4 dogs. My wife is a business consultant and we enjoy living life in the fast lane. My hobbies include golfing, fishing, and grilling. I've been in building maintenance my whole career and I love working on projects. Happy to be a part of the team! "

Anything but a hat day is Monday May 19th - A day where students and staff can wear something unusual on their heads that isn't a traditional hat. Head over to the PTA Facebook page to get some ideas of what you could wear!

Discovery's very own, Mrs. Taylor, was honored at the school board meeting for being nominated as the Box Elder School District Outstanding Elementary Teacher of year! Congratulations Mrs. Taylor!!!🎉🎉
